3 Sculptors, 3 Spaces
Peter Vandermark, Shaun Hayes and Michael Le Grand
The 3 artists – Shaun Hayes, Michael Le Grand and Peter Vandermark – are each at different and exciting stages of their careers. Each demonstrates a highly unique and personal way of dealing with his sculptural practice. Shaun Hayes works with clay and uses the history of that medium with a quirky and unique contemporary flavour. Michael Le Grand is a senior Australian artist with a major reputation and the exhibition takes a selective look at his practice celebrating the aesthetic adventure of abstraction as expressed through metal sculpture. Peter Vandermark is well-known to Canberra audiences for his continuing examination of the interaction of man with the built environment. His highly idiosyncratic take on this theme has resulted in a body of work noteworthy not just for its aesthetic surety but also for its wittingly idiosyncratic use of found (and other) materials and objects.
3 Sculptors. 3 Spaces takes an interrogative stance in its combination of 3 artists with 3 very different approaches to the sculptural medium. The works displayed in and around the unique venue of Strathnairn's Wool Shed offer an exciting and unusual way to view objects that celebrate the individual creative imagination and the underlying approaches to the object in space that offer connective threads across these 3 innovative and individual artistic talents,
The exhibition is curated by SAA Artistic Director Peter Haynes.
