Gas and Electric Kilns
Access to electric kiln hire requires users to:
be a current Member of Strathnairn Arts;
be independent and have experience in programming kilns;
have completed the electric kiln assessment;
have completed the electric kiln induction (available to book through the Members Only site).
Users wishing to hire a gas kiln should contact us.
Electric kiln induction
The Strathnairn Arts Electric Kiln Induction is for very experienced kiln users only - it is not a course in kiln operation. The purpose of the induction is to introduce users to the Strathnairn kilns, the booking system, WHS requirements and other matters particular to Strathnairn Arts.
Electric kiln firing workshop
The two-day intensive course is for those who have some experience (a basic understanding of types of clay and glazes) and are wanting to learn how to fire an electric kiln and/or seeking kiln access at Strathnairn Arts.
Kiln hire bookings
Kilns must be booked and paid for in advance using the online booking calendar, which is now only available in the Members Only site.
Please ensure to make allowances for the packing, firing and unpacking times under the relevant days in the calendar.
Kiln Firing Service
Strathnairn Arts offers a firing service for those wishing to have their work fired by our technical staff. We offer both electric oxidation and gas reduction services and can fire up to stoneware temperatures! Please see pricing below:
Please feel free to contact us at gemma@strathnairn.com.au for information regarding which service you need to hire, and remember to check which clay and glaze you are using to avoid any kiln disasters! We do charge damage fees if your work causes damage to our kilns.
All work for firing service can be dropped off and paid for at our shop counter between 10 am and 3:30pm Wednesday through Sunday, and will take up to two weeks to be ready for pick up depending on demand.
