Yarning Circles | Mixed media by Angela Pisciotta & Bertha Firebrace
Emuly the Gathering Emu is a family tradition which has been passed on to three generations so far. We are a collaboration of Wiradjuri, Yorta Yorta and Kamilaroi women based on Ngunnawal land.
Woven vessels are crafted by Angela Pisciotta Wiradjuri woman who has called Canberra home for over 24years. Baskets have been a passion of Angela’s for a very long time and she says “It is a gift I can share with others“. She enjoys teaching the skill to young people and young at heart including her daughter Naomi. Naomi plays an important part in Emuly as she is a great help with basketry, beading, workshops, markets and more.
Our elder Bertha (Babs) Firebrace is a Wiradjuri, Yorta Yorta woman from Griffith N.S.W. she is an emerging artist who has a way of expressing her culture through paint on reclaimed, reimagined, wooden pieces. Bertha has always dreamed of having a career in the arts and has picked up on painting after she retired from nursing at the Gilgandra Hospital less then twelve months ago.
