Artist Statement

While walking my dog Maizie at Pryor’s arboretum, I can become transfixed by the way the sunlight reflects off the lake through the reeds and she-oaks. To me the trees, mountains and sky seem to frame the view like a stage set imbued with a powerful sense of place. Using collage and mixed media I love to explore how to represent this multi layered natural world in a way that mirrors how I feel, using the forms and colours that inspire me.

About the artist

A graduate from the WA Institute of Technology, Amelia Mollett always loved making art. In 1999 she swapped farm life near Esperance for the management of a small publishing company owned by her family in Canberra. Later she retrained in Museum Practice and worked as an art handler at the Australian War Memorial and the National Portrait Gallery. Deciding in 2019 to return to her art practice, she works in her home studio and with the Canberra Art Workshop at M16 Artspace in Griffith.
