REFLECTED LIGHT | JENNIFER BAIRD
Gallery 2 | 3 June – 27 June, 2021
Reflected Light, A Solo Exhibition by Jennifer Baird.
An Exhibition of found papers and collage, this ruminative body of work is the embodiment of the artist’s responses when visiting “Within Without” artwork by James Turrell at the NGA. Jennifer says, 'Every visit to 'Within Without' inspires me. It starts with the immersive ephemeral experience in this static work. Then, the surprise of inside, the elements of earth, water, air and light surrounding me. Sometimes there are people singing, poet's reciting, kids splashing the water, sometimes silence and it is never ever the same.'
Through collage she has explored the ephemera of the work, including the constantly changing light, shadows, reflections, sounds, shapes and temperatures through the seasons. Expressing her love for ‘Within Without’, Jennifer ‘s collages also adopt a minimal style with limited lines and colours to convey the complexity and simultaneous simplicity of the Skyspace.
Her works have been created using a myriad of mediums including papers, (some found, recycled, painted or screen printed) to make the shapes, lines, light and textures of 'Within Without', Also included is a selection incorporating plastic bags and velvet. Jennifer Baird is a professional mid-career artist, working across the mediums of painting, collage, lino and screen printing.
