Art in Miniature

The Art in Miniature Canberra friendship group would like to invite you to a delight of miniature art works an art form that has existed since the 8th century. It was then that the Islamic influence flowed through to Indian, Chinese and Nth African art. In the Western world the earliest examples can be found in the illuminated capital letters of church manuscripts. The letters were often decorated in pure gold leaf and around them were pictures of everyday life, or from the Bible.
Our works depict our local surroundings being close to home, around our vast country, overseas, and more intimate places like: our kitchen benches, the beauty of flora and fauna and the inner imagination.
The jewel like art works invite the viewer for a closer look to appreciate the level of detail that comprise each artwork. The artworks stand on their own as any larger counterpart as the process is the same from conception to finished work. Compositionally, tonally, paint application is all part of a successful artwork and in the cases of miniatures the brush stokes are what distinguishes a miniature from a larger artwork, besides it’s reduced size
