CAROLYN FITZPATRICK | DRAWING

Curated by Peter Haynes

Strathnairn Arts Association Woolshed Gallery

Exhibition Dates: 18 March - 18 April 2021

Woolshed Opening hours:

Thursday & Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday & Sunday 12pm - 3pm

The theme of the exhibition is the exploration of the essence and expressive power of drawing, primarily with ink on paper. The subject matter is landscape, specific landscapes, because they have a story to tell. Research leads Carolyn to the place, but the experience of being in the environment for some time, immersed within it, drives the drawing.

“Drawing for Carolyn Fitzpatrick is part of a continuum not only within her practice but as part of the wider art world. It is the necessary tool for to express her deep connection with the natural world, with landscapes visited and revisited, with places that establish continuity with us and our world and which demand expressive and imaginative response from the artist.”

Excerpt from exhibition catalogue essay by Peter Haynes, Canberra February 2021.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I hope that my artworks attest to the power of drawing and hopefully awaken a fresh empathy for the landscape.
